Hayley’s love for hospice began at the age of sixteen when she became a hospice volunteer. Her passion for the hospice mission has grown tenfold after joining the Hospice of North Alabama and Oasis Hospice family in 2019, after nearly a decade as a hospice worker. Through the years she has worked with many patients and their families, each one holding a special place in her heart. Early in her career, Hayley had the opportunity to spend a few hours with a mother who wanted to share what her daughter was like before she was sick. “We spent time looking through old photos, watching home videos, and sharing memories of her daughter. It was one of the most meaningful moments of my life, both because I learned so much about what was important to this mother and about who her daughter was as a person—all of the wonderful attributes that made her truly unique—but also because it resonated with me that, despite our differences as people (because she was much more accomplished than I!), we are all more alike than we realize. We all have a story. We all wish to share our story and to feel like our story has meaning. We all wish to be loved, and we all wish to be around the people that we love and who love us for who we are. I realized in that moment that hospice had provided this family with a forum to achieve all of those wishes. And I’ve spent every day since connecting members of our community with our team to fulfill others’ wishes with the comfort and dignity they deserve,” Hayley said. When she is not serving others, Hayley enjoys spending time with her family—husband Taylor, daughter Laney Nell (namesake of Hayley’s Grandmother), and five-pound Yorkie Dewey, as well as Hayley and Taylor’s parents, his siblings, her grandparents, and their extended family.
